SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for TCI's manufacturing/quality processes. The Manufacturing Engineer is involved in the design of the company's manufacturing/quality processes and once the process is in place, this individual is responsible for running and maintaining the process as well as seeking ways to continually improve the process. The process of continuous improvement requires the Engineer to continually find ways to improve quality and efficiency, both of which lead to a better product and reductions in the cost of producing the product.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Duties

  • Manufacturing Engineering Functions:
    • Assist in Manufacturing-related activities that add strategic value to the business. This may include, but is not limited to process and procedural development activities, continuous improvement actions, such as lean manufacturing, process mapping and streamlining. Sub-activities in this area would also include analyzing and planning work force space requirements to enable one-piece flow, kanban, and visual floor management.
    • Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
    • Incorporate or investigate new methods and processes to improve existing operations or resolve operational issues such as material use variances or bottlenecks.
    • Prepare documentation for new manufacturing processes or engineering procedures
    • Review product designs for manufacturability or completeness
    • Lead / support internal and external validation (supplied component validations) activities for new products, processes, changes and transfers as required.
    • Provides technical guidance as needed to manufacturing and hourly technical personnel during the start-up of new or changed products and processes. Uses good decision making, problem solving and trouble-shooting techniques to minimize the potential or correct ongoing manufacturing quality issues.

Other Duties

  • Quality Management System Functions:
    • Evaluate and audit processes, policies and programs as it relates to regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, ensure corrective action closure and drive process maturation activities to continually improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the system.
    • Conduct internal audits of the quality, manufacturing and other systems, prepare reports, monitor corrective action/preventative action plans and report on progress for management review.
    • Prepares and communicates periodic reports summarizing key data and measurements.
    • Ensures and drives ongoing compliance with required third party registrations such as ISO9001:2015, OSHA, EPA, Insurance Inspectors, Fire Department, etc.)
    • Works with new or existing customers and internal departments on product feedback issues.
    • Work closely with operations to implement corrective actions through root cause analysis and FMEA evaluations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Knowledge Required

  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • Experienced in lean manufacturing, electronics testing techniques and quality control methodologies.
  • Understanding of process improvement methodologies and tools (Lean, Kaizen, Visual Factory, etc.).
  • Experience in developing, implementing and maintaining Quality management system requirements such as ISO 9001:2015
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite required (primarily Word, Excel and Visio).


Preferred

  • Knowledge of Oracle and Agile PLM experience a plus.
  • QA certification and experience in an ISO 9000 Quality environment.
  • It would be desirable to have formal training in one of the following areas: Lean, 5S, Kanban, Demand Flow, or Single Piece Flow.


Skills Required

  • Proficiency in process analysis techniques (statistical analysis, problem solving, process mapping).
  • Experience with QMS and process tools. Excellent technical skills with systems, databases, spreadsheets, process mapping etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Excellent training and presentation skills with solid communication capabilities and practices, both oral and written.

  • Ability to quickly grasp complex business and technology problems and drive them to resolution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to motivate teams and others, maintaining a persuasive credible and approachable presentation style.
