Technical Writer

We are looking for an enthusiastic technical writer to help us document our expanding list of high-tech products and features.

As a technical writer at ORT you'll be involved in new product development from early conceptual stages through product release and beyond.

You'll work with talented subject matter experts in the ORT engineering and software teams to produce complete and accurate documentation to suit our customers' needs.

Your work will directly impact the success of our robotic products.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and maintain high-quality, succinct user-facing documentation to support industrial fixed robots (SCARA, 6-axis, Delta robots), collaborative robots, autonomous mobile robots, associated software, and peripherals.
  • Work with the Engineering and Marketing teams during New Product Introduction (NPI) phases to acquire a thorough understanding of the product's form, function, and features.
  • Author content for a global audience of system integrators, OEMs, and end-users.
  • Deliver complete documentation as required by varying project timelines.
  • Capture, track, and resolve multiple documentation update requests.
  • Follow established procedures for content approval, records, and document releasing.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree required, Engineering preferred.

Experience: Experience with user documentation - 3+ years

Technical Abilities:

  • Quickly learn and understand complex subject matter associated with advanced robot systems.
  • Superb written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Discern internal engineering information from user-facing detail for use in documentation.
  • Collaboration with engineers to improve user experience (ex: design, UI), refine content, and create illustrations and diagrams.
  • Author in a consistent manner within a document and across the existing documentation library.
  • Manipulating existing CAD models for illustration purposes (Solidworks).
  • Create high quality line drawings/illustrations (Adobe Illustrator).
  • Understanding of DITA and XML (Ixiasoft or similar).
  • Familiarity with Adobe FrameMaker.
  • Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously.
  • Translation / localization from English to Japanese.

Behavioral Profile: Ability to multi-task and work cross-functionally with strong organizational skills. Team player mentality but able to work independently as required. Strong interpersonal, listening, questioning and communication skills (written and oral).

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands, this is a sedentary position involving sitting most of the time. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for extensive computer use, reading and visual inspections.

Environmental Factors: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a general office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

The annual salary range for this role in California is $110,000 - $130,000 a year, however, base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. This position is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus program. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
