Job Description

Radiation Therapy Technologists work closely with radiation oncologists, physicists, fellow radiation therapists and other healthcare professionals to deliver accurate radiation treatments to patients, based on treatment plans developed by dosimetrists and physicists. The treatments include radiation therapy using photon or electron beams, high dose rate brachytherapy, low dose rate brachytherapy, total body irradiation, stereotactic radiosurgery, IMRT treatments and participation in research protocols. Patient services are provided to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric oncology patients.
Ability to assist in moving patients. Ability to lift 25 lbs. for radiation therapy blocks.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) by the State of California in Therapeutic Radiology
  • Registration issued by American Registry and Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy R.T.(T)(ARRT).
  • Continuing education hours must be completed to maintain registration.
  • Take the CPPN IV contrast e-module and pass a competencies check list within six (6) months of hire.
  • Graduation from an accredited radiation therapy school.
  • Proficient in the use of linear accelerators, radiation therapy simulators, Brachytherapy equipment, related safely procedures and ability to recognize when unsafe or hazardous conditions exist.
  • Knowledge of current practices in radiation therapy.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload, machine breakdowns, heavy patient volume and emergency cases.
  • Ability to recognize and report any adverse reactions by patients to therapy.
  • Ability to remove IV from patient.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with others and secure necessary information and cooperation from a variety of people.
