Job Description

Department Purpose

The Phoenix Cluster is a large administrative cluster providing administrative and technical support for teaching, research, and outreach to the faculty, staff, and students of the departments of Plant Pathology & Entomology and Nematology. The cluster supports 36 faculty, 97 academics, 247 staff, and approximately 845 combined undergraduate and graduate students annually.

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Business Operations Manager (BOM), supervise and manage the business office operations for the Phoenix Cluster and associated departments. Directly supervise the Purchasing and Travel Team staff that have responsibility in the areas of Purchasing, Accounts Payable/Receivable, Equipment Inventory, Key Control, and General Administration.

This position is considered an essential position requiring the employee to be on site as part of normal day-to-day operations and during reduced or suspended operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lift and move boxes/supplies weighing up to 30 lbs.

  • Sit at a personal computer for extended periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Experience leading and/or supervising and mentoring staff, including recruitment and selection, coaching, evaluating performance, and corrective action.

  • Experience working in purchasing, A/P, A/R, travel, entertainment, internal controls, and skills to train individuals in these areas.

  • Experience working with online financial, purchasing, inventory, and shipping systems. Computer-related experience in using spreadsheets, word processing, and email/calendaring software.

  • Experience with sources of acquisition and principles for use of laboratory supplies and equipment including maintaining records.

  • Experience working with Business Contracts.

  • Problem-solving skills to focus on key issues, to research, gather, and integrate information, and to formulate recommendations and develop approaches to resolving issues and problems.

  • Organizational skills to work with changing priorities and a demanding workload to manage and monitor multiple accounts simultaneously and to meet multiple and variable priorities and deadlines.
