BASIC PURPOSE

The Group Exercise Instructor will give instruction to all ages and levels in any area of Education, Athletics, or Performing Arts. Design instructional programs and demonstrate proper techniques and styling to all levels of participants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Instruct with sound principles in the area of group exercise.
  2. Ability to teach beginners through advanced learners in the area of group exercise.
  3. Ability to speak and communicate before both small and large groups of people with poise and enthusiasm.
  4. Provide individual guidelines for development in the area of group exercise.
  5. Critique and give feedback to participants regarding their work and performance level.
  6. Create, teach, demonstrate and implement planned practices suitable for children and adults of all ages and abilities.
  7. Knowledge of safety precautions needed and ability to ensure compliance/ adherence by all class members.
  8. Maintain a safe working environment; report all harmful problems with facilities to proper supervisor.
  9. Generate legible and accurate accident and incident reports as required and immediately rectify or notify appropriate personnel of all accidents or potentially unsafe conditions.
  10. Follow and adhere to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures
  11. Provide a safe, fun and enjoyable learning environment for all participants.
  12. Maintain an open communication with direct supervisor regarding scheduling and coaching.
  13. Maintain a professional demeanor and attitude with children, patrons, customers, staff and upper management.
  14. Be on time and prepared to teach your class.
  15. Help facilitate equality and fairness among all participants.
  16. Ensure that any classroom changes or modifications are communicated to all classroom participants in an efficient manner.
  17. Adhere to all "Safe From Harm" Policies and Procedures as established by The Salvation Army.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Education Requirements

  1. Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalency

Skills

  1. At least six months of prior experience teaching or working in the area of instruction specified; preferred.
  2. Must have strong organizational skills and abilities.
  3. Must have a knowledge and ability to operate a computer.
  4. Must be able to function effectively with minimal or no supervision.
  5. Must be able to demonstrate various skills in the area of instruction specified.
  6. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
  7. Must have ability to work and relate well with people.
  8. Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as The Salvation Army.
  9. Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the gymnasium and athletic field programs.
  10. Have a Philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of the Center and The Salvation Army.
  11. Ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling and education.
  12. Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children and adult's individual needs of all ages.
  13. Ability to use appropriate positive discipline consistently.
  14. Ability to handle security and crisis situations, calmly.
  15. Ability to seek supervision and use it consistently.
  16. Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.

Certification

  1. License and/or Certification in fundamental and instructional training highly preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to stand, stoop, or walk for a minimum of eight hours per day and lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
